Network World blogger Alpha Doggs posted a most interesting blog today regarding a new technology that would allow the transmission of undetectable secret messages over the Internet.
The idea, according to Alpha Doggs, uses the new optical CDMA technology and sends a signal so faint that it is hard to detect or distinguish from natural optical noise.
Developed by a pair of Princeton researchers, this technique is sure to have strong interest by government and security agencies. It is also sure to have strong interest by terrorists, anarchists, etc.
The question I pose is this - how can we keep research that falls into the public domain from being used by the "bad guys"?
This technique, along with advanced or new encryption techniques, could be very difficult for our governmental agencies to decode.
I would imagine that our agencies are quite busy working on receiving and decoding MANY messages that avert disaster for our citizens - could the use of this technology by the wrong people cause a critical message to slip through?
